About the Farm Disaster Clearinghouse

    ABOUT FARM DISASTER RESOURCENET

    What is a Family Farm?

According to the National Commission on Small Farms, family farms are considered as "those farms with less than $250,000 gross receipts annually, on which day-to-day labor and management are provided by the farmer and/or the farm family that owns the production or owns, or leases, the productive assets."

The Farm Disaster ResourceNet provides information and referral assistance to family farmers who need help as a result of natural or technological disasters. In addition, it offers news and information on farm disasters and the response to them in the United States.

This web site includes disaster response information available to family farmers and support service providers.

Initial funding for the Farm Disaster ResourceNet was provided in 1999 through grants from Farm Aid and the Emergency Response Program of Church World Service.
