The Farm Disaster ResourceNet provides information and referral assistance to family scale farmers who need help as a result of natural or technological disasters.
This Web site (www.farmhelpline.org) is designed to become a central location providing resources for family scale farmers and professionals serving the rural communities who need to know about disaster response resources.
The toll-free HelpLine (888) 800-0118 provides the same kinds of resources, in more detail, for callers who live in the Mid-Atlantic region. Calls to the HelpLine are completely confidential.
The scope of the project's interactive Web site is being expanded to provide extensive resources for farm disaster survivors, local social agency practioners and pastors serving in disaster-impacted agriculture communities and people or other organizations who need to provide appropriate assistance.
In addition to providing information about federal, state, county and local programs, the Clearinghouse is being designed to provide a new opportunity to provide critically-needed faith-based support for farm families. Where local disaster response interfaith organizations have been established, the Clearinghouse will provide information about services available. If an interfaith organization is not available, contacts will be established with faith-based pastoral counselors and case workers.
Initial funding for the Farm Disaster ResourceNet was provided through grants from Farm Aid and the Emergency Response Program of Church World Service. Members of the interfaith Mid-Atlantic Drought Relief coalition are among the organizations that have pledged continuing support for the effort.
